Mexican Music Legend Juan Gabriel has passed away at the age of 66. The death of the Mexican music superstar has left the Latin Music world in complete shock as the singer had recently started his new 2016 US tour, and had performed in Los Angeles, this past Friday at The Forum.

Reports state that the singer died at his home in Santa Monica, CA due to a heart attack. El Divo de Juárez, as he was known to his millions of fans, was set to perform today in El Paso, Texas. The singer born as Alberto Aguilera Valadez on January 7, 1950 on Cinco de Mayo street, now known as Juan Gabriel Street, in the small town of Parácuaro, Michoacán Mexico. The singer was the youngest of 10 siblings, and at the age of 5 was sent to boarding school. While at the school, a young Juan Gabriel met teacher Juan Contreras who mentored, and encouraged him to explore his musical talents.

At a very young age, the singer began writing and working on his voice. Later at the age of 15, he left boarding school to pursue his dream of becoming a singer. The singer used the stage name Adán Luna, and performed at nightclubs throughout Mexico.

Juan Gabriel's big break came when he performed at the El Noa Noa nightclub in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, making him a local sensation. But the singer dreamed of becoming an international act, and left to Mexico City the Hollywood of Latin America. There he worked part time with RCA records where he wrote the chorus of songs for many well known artists. Juan Gabriel returned to Ciudad Juárez, after being rejected by numerous recording companies. While in Juárez, the singer performed at Malibu nightclub, where he earned $20.00 a night. Juan_Gabriel-Recuerdos_II juan-gabriel-musica-joven juan-gabriel-musica-vieja Finally at the age of 21, the singer signed a contract with RCA Records after officially changing his name to Juan Gabriel, (Juan, in honor of his boarding teacher, and mentor, and Gabriel in honor of his own father). In the next 15 years the singer recorded 15 albums and sold over 20 million records worldwide. In 1975 the singer made his acting debut in the movie Nobleza Ranchera. The singer was a pioneer in the Latin Music world and Mexico's top selling artist with more than 100 million albums sold worldwide. During his career the singer released over 1,800 songs.

El Divo de Juárez left four children, and one grandchild. Prior to his death the singer lived in his El Paso, Texas home in the "Las Placitas Del Rey," neighborhood. After news of his death, the President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto, called him one of Mexico's "greatest musical icons".
